Wizards of the Coast has released a sneak peek at the upcoming D&D: World of Warcraft. The preview of the new supplement, which adapts the characters and setting of Blizzard's iconic fantasy MMO for Dungeons & Dragons, showcases the book's 13 unique character classes.

The D&D: World of Warcraft Character Class Preview

In an official D&D Beyond post, the D&D: World of Warcraft supplement will include either original classes adapted from World of Warcraft or reimagined Dungeons & Dragons classes for Azeroth. These classes will include 9 subclasses and 40 specializations, which will either contain lists of recommended subclasses, spells, and magic items or be a unique subclass tailored to a specific playtest.

The preview does showcase how the supplement will attempt to thread the needle between reimagining core D&D classes and bringing more advanced classes to the fantasy TTRPG's 1-20 level system. It is a similar design challenge that was tackled by Free League Publishing when they adapted Lord of the Rings Roleplaying to the Dungeons & Dragons system.

Some of these are self-explanatory. The Mage class states you take the Wizard class and Evoker subclass, then you choose one of three specializations: Arcane, Frost, or Fire. The Fighter with the Arms specialization takes the Battle Master subclass; the Fury specialization takes the Champion subclass, etc..

Other D&D: World of Warcraft classes are featured as Hero Classes. These are character classes that start at level 3, meant to represent more experienced and powerful adventurers, and contain a mix of a custom subclass and tweaks to level 1 and 2 features. For example, the Death Knight class is a Paladin with the Oath of the Ebon Blade subclass. The Hero Classes featured include Death Knight, Demon Hunter, and Evoker.

D&D: World of Warcraft will be available both physically and on D&D Beyond on November 17, 2026.
