A new trailer for Bioware’s now cancelled game has leaked onto reddit following the studios closure. It was called Mass Effect Universe, and painfully it was “coming soon”.

In case you missed the news, EA announced the closure of Bioware yesterday, alongside the cancellation of the next Mass Effect game, which was in production.

Several hours ago on Reddit, an self-proclaimed anonymous EA worker shared some behind the scenes details, saying “There was a trailer ready for mass effect 5 that I saw a few months ago, so I’m puzzled as to how “early” they were.“

Turns out, it seems to be true. A new “burner account” called ‘Random_Hyabusa_Ninja’ replied to a user wishing they could see the trailer, saying “Ask and you shall receive. I can’t make this it’s own post because it’s a new burner account.”

Having viewed the trailer, embedded above, I’m of the opinion that it’s absolutely real, even though I can’t verify it. It states before it starts that “The following is in-engine footage from our small team. It uses our pre-production assets.”

The trailer features a male human character channelling some serious Mass Effect meets John Wick vibes as he enters a bar and meets his target, who confronts him and swiftly discovers he’s not alone, and has a team with him. One Asari character looks like an older version of Liara T’Soni, but that’s pure guess work from me.

We’d host the trailer ourselves, but rumour has it EA are DMCA striking channels and outlets that choose to do so, but this is the internet, so – good luck with keeping a lid on this one EA. Here’s one that’s currently live on YouTube.
